Three students who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and service to the community were recognized Thursday by the Tinley Park-Frankfort Rotary Club.
Emily Triolo, a recent graduate of Lincoln-Way East High School; Phillip Heisey a recent graduate at Tinley Park High School; and Megan Godette, a recent graduate of Andrew High School, were honored at the June 18 Rotary Club meeting.
They were picked from nearly 25 applicants to receive a Rotary scholarship, totaling $600 each.
“The Tinley Park-Frankfort Rotary Club is proud to recognize the 2009 scholarship recipients for their outstanding academic achievement and service to the community,” said Rotary Club President Karen Wegrzyn. “We wish them success in their college careers and look forward to hearing about their successes in the future.”
High school seniors who attend Andrew, Lincoln-Way East and Tinley Park high schools are eligible to apply for the Tinley Park-Frankfort Rotary Scholarship each year. They must demonstrate high academic achievement, service above self and need for financial assistance.
Many of those selected for the Rotary scholarship are active in their school’s Interact Club, a Rotary-sponsored service club for young people age 14-18. Interact members participate in community service projects, social functions, fund-raising projects and conventions.
Triolo, who was involved in Interact Club and National Honor Society at East, plans to attend Loyola University in the fall and pursue a degree in psychology. Heisey has set his sights on a career in the missions field and plans to study aeronautical science at a university in Longview, Texas this fall. Godette has enrolled in pharmacy school at Purdue University.
“I plan to keep up my service to the community as well as help others with my degree,” Godette wrote in a thank you note to the Rotary.
